Uprock Is Back
Brooklyn Uprock is back on the scene, and is letting it's presence be known within the Hip Hop and Funk dance culture. The Dynasty Rockers have united with other Brooklyn Uprockers to bring back the essence of this original dance style. Uprock or Rock, as it was known, was created in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn in the late 1960's. The dance reached it's peak in popularity through the 1970's. Many CREWS were created during this time, and many battles took place. The dance progressed and went through a name-change. The Rock dance became Uprock.
Uprock became dormant through the mid 80's and early 90's, but it's influence was noticeable in the Hip Hop culture as a modified form known as Top Rock, which was done by B-Boys(Breakers). Top Rock is not the original Brooklyn Uprock style and has been taught all around the world, which has lead many people to confusion about what Uprock really is.
Numbers and Burn One, two B-boys heavily involved in the Hip Hop scene, started a search for original Brooklyn Uprockers in the early 1990's. They discovered and brought out legendary dancers such as King Uprock, Danny Boy, Lil Dave, Clarkie, Mr. Loose, and many other original Uprockers who weren't in the spotlight at that time. Numbers is presently a member of the Dynasty Rockers. With help from Danny Martinez'(also of the Dynasty Rockers) design, Numbers and Ralph Casanova (a.k.a. King Uprock) have worked hand-in-hand to produce this website. This website was created to preserve Uprock and it's HISTORY, acknowledge the originators, veterans, and to highlight the accomplishments of the Dynasty Rockers and other active Uprock crews of today. We hope that this knowledge and history will inspire and enlighten many "new school" B-boys and Uprockers.
